Southerly is proud to announce the SOUTHERLY BARRIBUGU PRIZE in collaboration with The Whitlam Institute’s What Matters? Writing Competition, and with the support of Varuna, The National Writers’ House.
As part of our ongoing revival plans, we are thrilled to be creating more opportunities for young Australian writers.
Southerly will offer to publish the work of three Southerly Barribugu – What Matters? finalists in the Barribugu section of Southerly Online. Each of the selected works will provide a fresh voice achieved through the imaginative use of and control over language, intertextuality, and conceptual boldness.
The selected writers will be offered a $50 publication fee; a one-hour mentoring session, “Developing your practice as a professional writer” with mentors from Southerly and Varuna; and a book treasure trove of the most recent Southerly issues and other works of Australian literature.
The Southerly Barribugu – What Matters? Prize is open to students from years 5-12.
